Privacy Policy
1. Introduction
Kintz ("we," "our," or "us") is a mental wellness and grief support application designed to help you process emotions, track your mood, and journal through your healing journey. We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal information with care and transparency.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and your rights regarding your data. By using Kintz, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide
- Account information: when you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name and email address from those providers.
- Journal entries: text you write in the journaling feature, including your responses to guided prompts, mood ratings (1–10 scale), and tags you apply to entries.
- Mood data: mood check-ins and emotional state ratings you log within the app.
- Grief assessment responses: your answers to grief stage evaluation questionnaires.
- Daily check-in data: responses to daily emotional check-in prompts.
- AI chat messages: messages you send to the AI companion within the app. These are sent to our AI provider (OpenAI) to generate responses.
- Feedback: any feedback or support requests you submit through the app.
2.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Usage data: screens visited, features used, session duration, and interaction patterns — collected via Firebase Analytics to help us understand how the app is used and improve it.
- Crash reports: diagnostic crash logs collected via Firebase Crashlytics to detect and fix technical issues. These may include device type, OS version, and app version.
- Device information: device model, operating system version, and language settings.
- Purchase data: subscription status and purchase history, managed through RevenueCat. We do not store your payment card information.
- Push notification tokens: used to deliver reminders and check-in notifications, if you grant permission.
2.3 Information We Do NOT Collect
- We do not collect location data.
- We do not access your contacts, camera, or microphone.
- We do not collect biometric data.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Provide core app features: journaling, mood tracking, grief assessment, AI chat, and daily check-ins.
- Personalize your experience: surface relevant recommendations and resources based on your expressed needs.
- Generate AI responses: your chat messages and journal prompts are processed by OpenAI to deliver AI-assisted support.
- Send notifications: reminders for check-ins or journaling, if you have enabled notifications.
- Manage subscriptions: process and validate in-app purchases through RevenueCat.
- Improve the app: analyze aggregated, anonymized usage patterns and crash data to fix bugs and improve features.
- Respond to support requests: if you contact us, we use your information to respond.
We do not use your personal data to train AI models. We do not sell your data to advertisers or data brokers.
4. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect your information from unauthorized access, loss, misuse, or disclosure.
Our security measures include:
- Access controls intended to limit access to personal information to authorized systems and personnel.
Despite these measures, no system is completely immune to security risks. We encourage you to use a strong, unique password for your linked Google or Apple account.

OpenAI Data Handling
When you use AI features (chat or AI journaling), your messages are transmitted to OpenAI's API for processing. OpenAI's API data is not used to train their models by default per their API usage policy. Please review OpenAI's privacy policy for details.
6. Data Retention
- Account data: retained while your account is active. Deleted within 30 days of account deletion, except where we are legally required to retain information.
- Journal entries: retained while your account is active. Deleted within 30 days of account deletion, except where we are legally required to retain information.
- AI chat messages: processed to provide AI features. OpenAI may retain API request data under its own policy.
- Analytics and crash data: aggregated and retained per Firebase's standard retention periods (up to 14 months).
- Purchase records: retained as required for financial and legal compliance.
7. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:
- Access: request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correction: request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Notification permissions: you can enable or disable push notifications at any time in your device settings.
- Analytics opt-out: you may opt out of Firebase Analytics data collection through your device's privacy settings (iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking; Android: Google Settings → Ads).
Account Deletion
You can initiate permanent deletion of your Kintz account from within the Kintz app by navigating to Settings → Account → Delete Account.
Deleting your account deletes your account and associated personal data, including journal entries, mood data, assessments, and check-in data, except for information we are legally required to retain. Account deletion will be completed within 30 days.
Deleting your Kintz account does not automatically cancel an active App Store or Google Play subscription. You should cancel your subscription through your device’s subscription settings.

8. Children's Privacy
Kintz is not intended for use by children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the European Economic Area). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately at support@kintzapp.com and we will delete the information within 30 days.
9. Mental Health Disclaimer
Kintz is a wellness and self-reflection tool. It is not a substitute for professional mental health care, therapy, or crisis intervention. The AI companion in the app is not a licensed therapist or counselor.

10. International Users
Kintz is operated from the United States. If you use the app from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate. By using the app, you consent to this transfer.
11. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to:
- Know what personal information is collected, used, shared, or sold.
- Request deletion of your personal information.
- Opt out of the sale of your personal information. We do not sell personal information.
- Non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights.

12. European Users (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area, the UK, or Switzerland, we process your data under the following legal bases:
- Contract performance: to provide the app features you requested.
- Legitimate interests: to improve app stability and prevent fraud.
- Consent: for push notifications and analytics.
You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
13. Cookies & Website Analytics
This section covers kintzapp.com specifically, separately from the app data practices described above.
We use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand how visitors use this website, things like which pages get viewed and roughly where traffic comes from, so we can improve the site. This is set via a cookie and local storage in your browser.
- We do not use advertising cookies or ad tracking of any kind.
- We do not sell or share this data with anyone besides Google, who processes it on our behalf underGoogle's own privacy policy.
- Analytics is off by default. It only activates if you click "Accept" on the cookie banner shown on your first visit.
- You can change your decision at any time via "Cookie Preferences" in the footer of any page, which reopens the banner.
Declining, or not interacting with the banner at all, means no analytics cookie is set and no website usage data is sent to Google.
14. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you via an in-app notification or by updating the effective date at the top of this document. Your continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
